I just found something more fun than the flowers for Embrace. I wish I could use all this info. Man, I really want to write a story about doctors in the victorian period. I knew finally looking this stuff up would be interesting, I didn't know I'd have this much fun. Shit is whack, but it's *loads* of fun. But damn, poor people. 'Era of Quacks' is the best descrip.

This is the site I've been reading. It's really cool. Uh. Okay it's cool if, like me, your bookmarks include the official sites for Jack the Ripper and Lizzie Borden >_>

I'm so glad I broke down and bought my coat. It was a splurge, but it's a good one. Now the bitch just needs to get here.

This woman on the bus had her music up so load I could not only hear it, I could understand the lyrics and damn near sing a long. *shakes head*

Dear Embracers,

Stop scaring the author.

Hiding in the corner,
Amaretto ^_~

Ugh. It's not that I hate my job. I don't. But I would much rather be writing and cleaning house. Does that make sense?

Need to start searching for a new pic for my LJ layout. I love my Saiyuki image muchly, but it's almost time to switch to a winter theme.

EEEE! Lincoln from Prison Break is on Q102! And Whee! It's back on tonight!! *gleeeee*

Or I will be once I make the corrections suggested by my betas.

Erm. Was going to do them at lunch. But now it looks as though I may not even get near my work comp after this. Oh, well. Expect at least one story tonight. Of the other two for which I've completed parts, one you won't see until it's *done* (and I am bloody fucking hell going to finish it by Friday if not sooner) and I think maybe I should wait until the second half is finished with the other story, lest I find myself being threatened. I'll let the betas decide.

And now to work. Alas, it looks like I shall not have the freedom this week for which I was hoping >_< Damn.

Until I get some writing done. Must. Write. SMP. story. Sheesh I've never been this bad about it. Don't even have anything typed...but I'll have something to mail out Monday if I have to forego sleep. There is no excuse for this kind of slacking.

Also working on something I shouldn't be working on. And I'm not telling or posting until it's done, because I tend to slack off after posting well-recieved snippets. Mwahahahaha.

Quick book rec:

Geisha, A Life by Mineko Iwasaki. I liked Memoirs of a Geisha, I like this one more (even though a lot of the publishers seem to think A Life is stiff and mechanical). She has a pretty way of writing (at least in English; I don't know if it's a translation or whatnot); it's very Japanese (obviously), I think that's what throws the white folk off. Anyway, cool book.

Okay, enough rambling. I am hereby exiled from the internet until I accomplish something.

I HAVE ANANSI BOYS!

But I also have writing to do. So it will be my treat later ^_^

Saw Corpse Bride last nigh! Not as good as Nightmare, but I am a biased fangirl. Gomi my sweet, I dont' know that you'll like the song/dance numbers so much. But then again, who knows? I'm often wrong about you and movies. But I liked it very very much. It was fun and cute and sweet.

While at the bookstore, also bought to writing books. Writer's Market for short stories and novels (and I've already found three mags that accept "sword and sorcery, science fiction, feminist, gay, etc" so w00t! ^_^ Also bought Elements of Style, which is something of a bible in the writing world? Though skimming through I've already picked up a few of the lessons he goes on about - mostly because they're drilled into me here. Anyone who thinks the 'net method of writing/posting isn't worth anything clearly doesn't know much about it. Heh. At least on my flist, no punches are ever pulled *loves*

Mmm, coffee. Walked to UDF this morning for cofffee. It is cloudy and cool, but pleasantly so. A verra nice day indeed.

And now I write. *ignores Anansi calling her name*

Nick is such the angsty bunny bitch of the show. I want to pet him and hook him up with Warrick because the whole marriage thing is REALLY FUCKING LAME. Poor Kat, those two always did have pretty tension (<--pretend that makes sense).

Work has gone to shit.I hate the upper echelons of business )

In other news, am rereading The Blue Sword. I don't even remember anymore which of the two is my fav. It's so rare to find books where the chicks are so fracking cool and the romance is cool without turning her into some simpering little homemaker puddle. I'm all about the tough chicks (gee, who would have guessed?). Nausicaa, Harry and Aerin are so entirely my girl crushes.

Christ, go to bed Megan.

Dear Stephen King,

I love you. As much as parts of it freak me out and make me fret, On Writing also makes me feel much better. Thanks for the help.

Most Sincerely,
Megan Derr

P.S. Still love Neil Gaimen more.

Wrote four pages of Sworn Duty. They're CRAP. Wrote some of Flower Boys. UTTER CRAP. And there are problems I didn't see before with Rose/Fox and Doug's story that I didn't see before.

>_<

Whatever. I'll figure them out.

In the meantime, love that Shoujo Beat is translating God Child. One of my favorite series ever (which is weird, because it's hardcore kaori yuki angst at it's best) and next chapter Jezebel finally appears. I don't care how fucked up or evil or pyscho that man is, he's dead sexy and so heartbreakingly tragic. And Cassion ;_; They need to hurry the fuck up and get to books 5-8. Dr. Jezebel is mad omfguh in Megan-land, yes indeed (this icon really doesn't do him justice. I'd scan the manga I've got if anyone but me cared. So pretty *_*)

Yes, I'm done now.

So far I've squeed over Meg's story, redid my icons a bit and am now going to make sure my load of laundry is dry so I can shower and dress (on the downside, it's cold out today. on the upside, that means I get to wear one of my new sweaters).

I like the new icons, though at least half are old ones that I can't bear to part with. I deliberated over story icons, but finally settled on the ones I want most to work on. So if it has an icon, it will someday be complete. Except Treasure, which I simply like having up. Also, this unhealthy obession with Fai needs to either stop or be fed new manga/info/pretty pictures.

Sammikins, will work on your screencaps after I get clean and do some writing to make this day not a complete wash before I go to the BBQ.

Lata' peeps.

Ack. Way way behind on LJ. If there's a post you need/want me to see, drop me a link b/c I've got so many to catch up on it's a good bet I'll miss something.

So. Eyes were examined to today. My prescription of course changed, but otherwise my eyes are in perfect health! And my new glasses only cost $170.00 with EyeMed (they would have cost almost $500.00 w/out). They're reall cool! Small, and this weird geometric shape. Not something I would have thought to try myself, so I'm glad we had someone helping us. Plus! I was able to get the Flextint lenses I wanted, so they'll change according to the light. I'm mad excited - they'll be ready in two weeks, maybe I'll post pictures (becauase glasses are so exciting >_>;;).

Bought four books last night. I bought the manga version of The Nightmare Before Christmas. Caved and bought a book that caught my eye a while ago, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. It's about two Chinese women in the days of foot binding who become friends and stuff via...I think it's called "nu shu" but basically "women's writing." Sounds vaguely femslashy, I'll be interested to see to what degree that element is present. Also *finally* got Stephen King's On Writing, and will probably read it when I have a large chunk of time as King, no matter what he writes, is of the "do nothing else until this book is finished" variety. Lasty, picked up a Foxtrot book (and Sarah got another one) for to continue the marking of comics for my manifesto (in fact, I think I'll go back to marking them as my head has been killing me all day and that will be relaxing).

Now the real question of the day: All the money I've spent so far, do I have enough to preorder Anansi Boys and get the how to write/get published book I want? We'll see after Jungle Jim's, I guess.
