Just played rosalyn_angel's tabletop RPG tonight with jameson9101322 and Maura. Twas very fun. I died four times in the last battle alone--I think it's pretty safe to say I died the most out of the three of us. ^_^ I was the one most worried about dying, but oddly, it was jameson9101322's death and possible permanent death that frightened me the most. Why? Because she was the party's healer. If she died and stayed dead, death for me might actually be permanent too. It was a fun game. Some quotes (from jameson9101322, who was the healer and white mage): - When seeking information on Missing NPC: "Are there any pratfalls that he probably prat-fell into?" - When the party was attacked by said NPC's ghost: "If I cast Cure on him can I fix his deadness?" Yeah. It was a riot. ^_^ In other news, I've been reading Barbara Sher's book Wishcraft and am finishing up the last exercise in part 2 (of 4). This book, paired with iGTD (a Getting Things Done program for the Mac), is helping me sort though my life enough to feel productive every day without getting overwhelmed. landline000's been really helpful on the GTD front--it's like I get pearls without having to pry open clams. Nice, huh? I met with my Shakespeare teacher on Sunday. He's a nice guy, and while much of my work will be front-loaded, I think, the class will work out well if I stay focused and get the readings and movie watchings done in a timely fashion. I'm not nervous yet--just excited. We're going to be doing some controversial plays, one of which I picked just because it makes me angry/upset inside: Othello. But yeah--it'll be mucho fun. ^_^ rosalyn_angel is showing me Avatar: The Last Airbender (Yay finally getting to watch it!). We're on episode 9/20 of Book 1/3. So, episode 9/60. It'll be an adventure! ^_^ I got a letter from Eliana at Iowa, and am writing two letters to people who will know who they are when the letters arrive. Am also writing a holidaysmut story for National Loneliness Day...but I fear that story is running from drabble base camp and up the mountain of length something fierce. I might just keep reading the comm archives and write for another challenge that doesn't want to grow too long, and save the pixie story for later. And now...I should get to writing Jinx some more. I have been a bad, bad writer. >_>

Gacked from dolimir_k, and because I believe laughter is the best medicine: Your result for The 3 Variable Funny Test... the Prankster your humor style: CLEAN | COMPLEX | LIGHTYour humor has an intellectual, even conceptual slant to it. You're not pretentious, but you're not into what some would call 'low humor' either. You'll laugh at a good dirty joke, but you definitely prefer something clever to something moist. You probably like well-thought-out pranks and/or spoofs and it's highly likely you've tried one of these things yourself. In a lot of ways, yours is the most entertaining type of humor because it's smart without being mean-spirited. PEOPLE LIKE YOU: Conan O'Brian - Ashton Kutcher

Back on Saturday, I went to the local farmer's market on a design project and discovered something awesome and HEALTHY: GARLIC CHEESE CURDS. Sounds disgusting, yes? But NO! Curds are like cheese, but with a lighter taste and a springier texture. Combined with garlic, I HAD to buy the 16 oz box, even if it was $5.
I had an interview for a graphic design/office assistant job today and I babbled like a brook AND forgot to mention facts that would make me appear more impressive. When will I learn to think before I speak? WHEN?
So I bought some Ben and Jerry's to soothe my disappointment. It'd be a miracle if they call me back.
Accomplished student is accomplished--printed off the movie poster for 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days AND the black and white newspaper ad version which I didn't even know was due until I ran into a few classmates in the lab. ^____________^ ROCK ON, for the deadlines only pile up from hereon. - Mood:accomplished

One of these days I am going to get high - like, pot-high, not just my-reaction-to-Benadryl-is-abnormally-strong-high - and write a whole book's worth of essays on random topics, and I won't even be pulling them out of my ass because I think about this shit all the time, it's just kind of on a subroutine, and the drugs will just make me more articulate about it (or at least less inclined to cover it up, I'm no so sure about that articulate bit). Until then, I will continue to muse about the primal energy of slam-dancing and how it can still be considered 'dancing' when the main aim is pretty much to fuck up everybody around you; I will also muse on such varied topics as break-n-bake cookies and their association in my mind, road trips and the people on them, and the social stigmas relating to the political correctness of the internet and how I feel it's hindering instead of helping social progress (a pet topic of mine which I muse on constantly).

Have a slightly better idea of how to continue: I'm going to write the big scenes in the middle and end of the act, and then I can crochet them together. Small steps. Current wordcount, after some more typo adjusting and a quick question at military_beta: Also, if anyone can help with a few quick layout things for jd_ficathon, please drop me an e-mail. melayneseahawk[at]gmail[dot]com Bed now, I'm knackered.

I'm watching the last season of The L Word and I can't tell if Jenny Sheckter is supposed to be really mean or a sociopath. Maybe I'm missing stuff, because I think it's been a year since I watched any of this show, and it was just on as background noise while I worked. I had a meeting with the BossmanHoD today, during I had to admit that no, I had not seen the Torchwood movie, but I heard it was really dark and semi-traumatic, so I'm saving it to watch when I have the time for uninterrupted media-watching focus. Then I mentioned I know someone who is a TW fan, but doesn't really know about Dr.Who, except for what TW mentions. HoD: NOOOOO~! (His face was like this, too: D8 ) Me: Yeah, she asked me what a TARDIS was. HoD: WHAT. GIVE ME HER EMAIL. WE CAN'T HAVE THIS. Me: o_____o I'm glad I'm still having projects through the department. Our story meetings are straaaange.

Here in Australia there is a senate submission to support Marriage Equality. It's our equivalent to all the Prop-8 etc legislation in America. For me, as a queer-ally and a feminist, the marriage equality issue has personal ramifications. These laws define what our marriages mean as well as who has access to them. By excluding same-sex couples, my marriage becomes part of the hetero-nuclear-normative ideology. It's like, by being married, I am supporting a system that excludes people I love and care about and only includes marriages designed for child-bearing, which we're not doing. I know we all know the issues, the reasons why allowing same-sex marriage is important for people directly affected, but I think it's really important for the rest of us/society too. Anyway if you want to make a submission the Australians for Marriage Equality site has an automated submission form, if you follow the links from here: http://www.australianmarriageequality.com/senatesubmission.htm( my submission )

In fact, it is a TOTAL eclipse of the heart sun! I quote (from ...somewhere): Total eclipse of the sun. From sunrise to sunset, the umbral path will sweep from west to east across India, southeastern Nepal, Bhutan, northern Bangladesh, and the extreme northern tip of Myanmar, then across the breadth of China to the eastern city of Shanghai. Leaving mainland Asia, the eclipse will then cross the Ryukyu Island chain south of Japan, followed by Iwo Jima, as it begins to curve through the Pacific Ocean, eventually reaching the Marshall, Gilbert, and Phoenix Islands. The eclipse will attain its maximum extent over the Pacific, with totality lasting 6 minutes and 39 seconds.Any way you are inspired, be it solar or lunar or vascular eclipses, or something more abstract, get writing and post them here! No eclipsing the formatting, now!

So, all through last week, requests from the NYC Law Department for background information on the Foreign Missions Act of 1982. Not a complicated request by any means, but coming from them, not a common request. Well, hey, they tell us what they need, we go out and get it. Then, in today's paper, Blame Hillary! - and I'm almost certain this is *why* they are suddenly so interested in that act! (Incidentally, because this is what I do, yeah, so there's the NYP write-up, but I need to see the actual text of the State Department notice. Well, hey, not a law librarian for nothing! Department of State, Public Notice 6690, June 23, 2009) --- ...latest *other* kinda cool thing about being a law librarian is, well, all the promo crap I get, for books I will *never* buy or have any reason to buy - but at the same time, can't help but stop and think that it's simultaneously kind of cool and kind of sad/bizarre that books of the sort exist. ...books like: Serial Violence: Analysis of Modus Operandi and Signature Characteristics of Killers. And Pediatric Homicide: Medical Investigation. So, if you ever, uh, *need* a book on either of those topics, well, CRC Press is who you're gonna call...

I have to go back and do more analysis to make my committee chair happy. Sigh. So much for being done...
